May has been breezing by in that good but stressful, familiar spring flurry. The lilacs have come and gone, the sheep are devouring the grass faster than we can move them onto fresh, the garden weeds are already growing and growing. Every year I forget how many different directions we get pulled in this season, a tough beautiful marathon that never seems to end. Lately I’ve been feeling like a mad woman, driving back and forth from our rental house to the farm, to the garden. There are old snacks and dirty diapers in every crevice of my car and my bedroom is a sea of laundry piles waiting to be folded because my attention has been devoted everywhere else. But it’s no matter, all in the name of good food and fresh medicine and a life caretaking land.
Though I missed May altogether, the monthly plant walks are continuing on and June is all about wild foods!! We’ll be meeting here at our beloved farm home Black Sheep Hill (and Foliage Botanics headquarters) in Pine Plains NY to walk and talk and SNACK on the late spring edible plants. I’m really excited about it, space is limited but only a few people have signed up so far so there’s plenty of room for you!
The cost for this walk & many wild snacks is $30, Sunday June 5th 10 am - 12 (will likely go a little longer as we eat and hang at the end!). RSVP by emailing me at foliagebotanics@gmail.com (or replying to this newsletter). If cost is an issue for you and you would really love to come, email me and we can work it out! There’s a pay-it-forward fund we’ve been building for that :)
Green blessings from me to you from here
